In a head to head, what would you go with? They are very similar but very different at the same time.

Oppo-inions?

Tried to embed a poll but kept getting Kinja'd and didn't want to risk it looking dumb so just cast your votes below.

Colorado because its more "new", from some of the initial articles it sounds like the Taco is more a thorough refresh rather than an all new vehicle.

Too early to call.

Tacoma with the same drivetrain and chassis? D-max Colorado.

Tacoma with new drivetrain and chassis? Probably Tacoma.

I'd get a 22r Toyota Pickup. If I had to go new, it would probably be the Taco since they're going to sell it with a stick.

I go Taco because I still don't trust Chevrolet to make a reliable vehicle.

Definitely Tacoma. Not only does Toyota have a much better track record with reliability, it will also hold it's value a lot better in the long run. On top of that, it doesn't look like Toyota took a Camry and put a bed on it like the Colorado does with the Malibu, the Taco looks like it was supposed to be a truck. In my case, I'm also sure the offroad aftermarket will be a lot stronger on the Tacoma. Plus, my 4Runner wouldn't look right next to a Colorado.

to be fair, the canyorado is a refresh of an older international design, we just aren't used to it.

Canyon, because it's the best looking mid-sized truck IMO.

Kinja'd!!!

But, if I have to choose between the Taco and Colorado, Colorado. Unless Toyota majorly reworked the Taco, it's going to have less power and not be as refined. And dat schnozz on the Taco...

Have any more details been released about the Bro-coma? Brakes, transmission specs. I feel like it is only a refresh with the same frame-drivetrain-etc but with a vastly uglier exterior.

as a package, I think the Canyon is the best looking, but I HATE that they have a smaller greenhouse with less outward visibility and, frankly, terrible approach angles, even with the air dam removed.

I agree with you completely. I was chatting with my buddy and we both reserved judgement for in person evaluation but I was curious about the pulse of the community in a "knee jerk reaction" kind of way.

It does look the part, no doubt. The Colorado doesn't have the same visual appeal.

I read your thoughts earlier, and I have to agree. I genuinely despise Toyota's methodology of half-assed development. If they do not bring in higher geared transmissions and thereby increasing fuel mileage, they are going to lose a lion's share of 1st world country sales.

Talking with someone who's driven the prototypes, they are confident they have the Colorado beat...so theres that.

its a tough call though, Toyota plays it safe because the other markets that they build trucks in use the same transmissions and gear but they sell more and it matters more there whether or not they break down and less about the 1 or 2 mpg gain. We'll see.

That's cool and I hope without bias (we all have it whether we like to admit it or not). I'm personally trying to get over my dislike of Toyotas in order to give the Taco a chance. I drove the Colorado and thought it was well put together and, dare I say, comfortable but it did not feel like a truck to me (whatever that means).

I'm hopeful to be able to give each a shot back to back sometime for a proper evaluation. I would love to have something in the near future, as you are well aware.

Canyon, of course there's some bias there too. Really depends on how the Taco is once in production.

yes, the bumper is lower on the canyon.

That's brutally disappointing. I would have never thought to even CHECK that.

I can't say for sure, but I do know that the bummer itself is a little lower on the canyon than the colorado

That's f-ing lame.

The one that looks tougher has the lower bumper.

I guess I'll be looking for a Colorado in a few years. Or at least making sure there's a small lift kit available for the Canyon....
